Overview
The Dutch meteo institute KNMI supplies meteo forecasts generated by the HiRLAM model. See the next websites to get:
- information on HiRLAM
- information on provided data packages
Most of the water managers use data package 5. This "how to..." uses this package as example.
The data packages are available through ftp (protected by password) in GRIB (grib-1) format.
Up to HiRLAM version 7.0 it is possible to import these grib files in to FEWS by using importType=GRIB to import all data. Newer versions of HiRLAM (v7.2) provide more also in package 5 forecasts for more than 1 level, e.g. both at 0 and 10m above the surface. To import these data without any problems you should use the FEWS Grib-1 or Grib-2 reader to be able to specify the required levels via an externalQualifier.
Notice that this import example also works for the Harmonie data set.
Examples
version 7.0 using importType=GRIB
<idMap version="1.1" xmlns="http://www.wldelft.nl/fews" ........> <parameter internal="Wind.voorsp.u" external="33"/> <parameter internal="Wind.voorsp.v" external="34"/> <parameter internal="P.voorsp" external="61"/> <parameter internal="T.voorsp" external="11"/> </idMap> <import> <general> <importType>grib</importType> <folder>$IMPORT_FOLDER_KNMI_HIRLAM$</folder> <idMapId>IdImportHIRLAM</idMapId> <unitConversionsId>ImportKNMIUnits</unitConversionsId> <importTimeZone> <timeZoneOffset>+00:00</timeZoneOffset> </importTimeZone> <dataFeedId>KNMI-HIRLAM</dataFeedId> </general> <timeSeriesSet> <moduleInstanceId>ImportKNMI</moduleInstanceId> <valueType>grid</valueType> <parameterId>P.voorsp</parameterId> <locationId>KNMI-HIRLAM</locationId> <timeSeriesType>external forecasting</timeSeriesType> <timeStep unit="hour"/> <readWriteMode>add originals</readWriteMode> <synchLevel>6</synchLevel> </timeSeriesSet> ...
version 7.2 using importType=GRIB
This is not possible
using importType=GRIB1 or using importType=GRIB2
Example to get the temperature at level of 2m above the surface and the wind at 10m.
<idMap version="1.1" xmlns="http://www.wldelft.nl/fews" ........> <parameter internal="Wind.voorsp.u" external="U_component_of_wind" externalQualifier="10.0"/> <parameter internal="Wind.voorsp.v" external="V_component_of_wind" externalQualifier="10.0"/> <parameter internal="P.voorsp" external="Total_precipitation" externalQualifier="0.0"/> <parameter internal="T.voorsp" external="Temperature" externalQualifier="2.0"/> </idMap>
